Member Feature: Lutt Farms
For our December Newsletter, we are excited to feature one of our member families, the Lutt family! For more than a century, Lutt Farms has grown from a small family operation into a diversified, multi-generation business rooted in agriculture.
We are excited to feature one of our member families, the Lutt family! During a visit this summer, we spoke with Noah Lutt to learn more about Lutt Farms, the family’s business expansion, and their plans for growth to meet future market demands while maintaining sustainability for generations to come.
Lutt Farms carries over a century of history, remaining in the family for five generations since its founding in 1912. The operation primarily grows corn and soybeans and maintains a small backgrounding cattle feed yard. By blending traditional farming with modern practices, the Lutts have fostered steady growth while sustaining the success of their operation over time.
In 1985, Rodney Lutt expanded the family business by launching Lutt Trucking, improving product transport and keeping daily operations running smoothly. In 2014, the family further diversified with Northeast Tire, serving everything from standard vehicle tires to large agricultural tires and meeting a wide range of community needs. Most recently, Carroll Grain was launched in 2023. With over 600,000 bushels of storage, the business buys and sells grain and produces dairy feed, supporting local farmers and dairies across the region.
Noah Lutt is carrying on the family legacy while adapting to new challenges. “It’s exciting to see how our operation has grown,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of this journey that respects our past while looking toward the future.”
To keep a business thriving and responsible, Noah emphasizes blending technology, sustainability, and diversification. Automation can boost efficiency and reduce waste, eco-friendly practices attract conscious consumers, and expanding product lines helps tap new markets while mitigating risk. This balance keeps the farm relevant, adaptable, and focused on future generations.
The Lutt family joined the Nebraska Farmers Network to connect with other farmers and be part of a supportive community. “It’s great to meet people who face the same challenges and learn from each other,” Noah said. “I’m excited about what NFN can do for our farming community. Working together can make us all stronger and help us face the challenges ahead.”
